The number of unemployed in Morocco reaches 1,630,000 people

The unemployment rate in has very slightly fell by 0.4 points between the quarters of 2024 and 2025, from 13.7% to 13.3%, it emerged from the recent point of High Commission Information note (HCP) relating to the job situation.

This rate was established at 16.6% in an urban environment (-1 point), 7.3% in rural areas (+0.5 point), 11.5% in men (-0.5 point) and 19.9% ​​among (-0.2%), indicates the HCP, specifying that the total number of unemployed fell from 1% to 1% to 1,630,000 people, with a decrease of 40,000 unemployed in urban areas and in rural areas.

Among people aged 15 to 24, the unemployment rate experienced 1.8 points to 37.7%, while it dropped from 0.8 points to 21.2% among people aged 25 to 34, from 0.5 point to 7.5% among people aged 35 to 44 and 0.6 points to 3.9% for those aged 45 and over.

The unemployment rate of graduates, for its part, recorded a decline of 0.9 points to 19.4%. This drop is more pronounced among holders of technicians and medium executives (-3.9 points to 24%) and professional qualification diplomas (-3.6 points to 21.9%).

In addition, the HCP indicates that the volume of assets occupied in sub-employment situated, between the first quarter of 2024 and that of 2025, from 1,069,000 to 1,254,000 people at the national level, from 571,000 to 662,000 people in urban areas and from 499,000 to 592,000 in rural areas.

The underemployment rate has thus recorded an increase of 1.5 points at the national level, going from 10.3% to 11.8%. It increased by 2.3 points to 14.8% in rural areas and a point to 10% in urban areas.

Regarding the volume of the active population occupied in the situation of underemployment in terms of the number of worked, it went from 576,000 to 664,000 people at the national level. The corresponding rate increased by 5.6% to 6.3%.

The active population occupied in the situation of underemployment in terms of insufficient income or inadequacy between training and employment exercised increased from 493,000 to 590,000 people at the national level. The corresponding rate increased from 4.8% to 5.6%.

All sectors have recorded an increase in the underemployment rate. The construction sector (building and public works), the most affected by underemployment, experienced the largest increase with 3.6 points (from 19% to 22.6%), followed by agriculture, forest and fishing with 2.3 points (from 12.1% to 14.4%), industry with 1 point (from 6.3% to 7.3%) and services with 0.7 points (from 8.3% to 9%).
