Moroccan seasonal workers have their first union

This union was created thanks to the support of the feminist Jornaleras de Huelva in Lucha. The organization was Registered by the Syndicat des d’I Andalusie (SOA).

The union section brings together seasonal seasonal hired as part of the GECCO (collective management of contracts originally) which supervises circular migration in the agricultural sector.

This is a major for the Moroccan seasonal workers who will finally be able to legally defend their after having a long time undergoing numerous abuses on farms in , in particular in Huelva. Abusive dismissal, non -compliance with agreements, sexual harassment … so many risks with which Moroccan workers are constantly faced.

In parallel, the collective Jornaleras de Huelva in Lucha announced the filing of a complaint for abusive dismissal filed in by a worker. This would not have been by her company, although she has a residence permit valid for four consecutive agricultural campaigns and has signed a fixed-term contract.

The success of this appeal could make a case law by overcoming one of the largest flaws in the GECCO program: the practical impossibility of formulating demands once the is finished, when the workers returned to Morocco and are no longer on territory.
