This union was created thanks to the support of the feminist collective Jornaleras de Huelva in Lucha. The organization was Registered by the Syndicat des Workers d’I Andalusie (SOA).
The union section brings together Moroccan seasonal seasonal hired as part of the GECCO (collective management of contracts originally) program which supervises circular migration in the agricultural sector.
This is a major advance for the Moroccan seasonal workers who will finally be able to legally defend their rights after having a long time undergoing numerous abuses on farms in Spain, in particular in Huelva. Abusive dismissal, non -compliance with work agreements, sexual harassment … so many risks with which Moroccan workers are constantly faced.
In parallel, the collective Jornaleras de Huelva in Lucha announced the filing of a complaint for abusive dismissal filed in Morocco by a worker. This would not have been called by her company, although she has a residence permit valid for four consecutive agricultural campaigns and has signed a fixed-term contract.
The success of this appeal could make a case law by overcoming one of the largest flaws in the GECCO program: the practical impossibility of formulating demands once the campaign is finished, when the workers returned to Morocco and are no longer on Spanish territory.
