Morocco shines in Africa, Algeria absent from the world ranking

In a performance which confirms the positive dynamics of its system, has risen to place in the Maghreb and the second in Africa in the Global Education Index 2025, published by the Research Unit of Global Citizen Solutions. The kingdom ranks 64ᵉ on a global scale out of a total of 72 countries evaluated, of , Ghana, Nigeria and Egypt. At the continental level, only South Africa (57ᵉ) surpasses Morocco. Then follow Tunisia (65ᵉ), Ghana (66ᵉ), Nigeria (68ᵉ) and Egypt (70ᵉ), just before Lebanon (71ᵉ), in the ranking. A global lead, we find the States, the United Kingdom and Australia, followed by Germany, Canada, France and other large nations.

This ranking is based on five major pillars: the quality of education systems, teaching costs, working conditions, innovation environment and quality of life. It relies on more than 1000 data points and 17 key indicators, offering a rigorous evaluation of global educational performance.

Despite the challenges facing the continent – lack of means, low scientific production, employability rate at half mast -, Morocco is distinguished by its resilience and its efforts in reform and openness. The report in particular the development of internationalization programs in universities and the country’s growing attractiveness to foreign students.

On the other hand, the absence of Algeria is indicative of a system in crisis: decline of university quality, disengagement of research, opaque management and marginalization of skills. While his neighbors are progressing, Algiers seems to sink into a spiral of immobility.
