As part of the commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco in favor of environmental protection and the promotion of sustainable development, the Ministry of Justice has taken part in the work of the 4th World conference on Environmental Law, organized by the World Environmental Law Commission under the International Union for Nature Conservation (IUCN), under the theme: “Integrated legal protection of air, sea and land”.
Welcomed at the Hassan II International Environmental Training Center, this high -level meeting brought together a wide range of legal and environmental experts, researchers, government representatives as well as international and regional organizations, in order to strengthen the international legal framework for environmental protection in the face of increasingly urgent climatic challenges.
The Ministry of Justice was represented by Rima Lablaili, director of cooperation and communication, who pronounced a speech on behalf of Mr. Abdellatif Ouahbi, Minister of Justice. In her intervention, she recalled that “protecting the environment is no longer a choice or a legislative luxury; It is now a legal, ethical and political requirement, dictated by our collective responsibility towards the present and future generations ”. It highlighted Morocco’s strong commitment to environmental law, in particular through the consolidation of the national legislative framework, the capacity building of legal actors, and active cooperation with the national and international institutions concerned.
Rima Lablaili has also underlined the significant advance of Moroccan environmental legislation in recent years, covering areas as varied as biodiversity, water resources, waste management, air pollution and the fight against climate change. These reforms, she said, “testify to Morocco’s will to align its legal texts on international standards and fully integrate environmental justice into its global vision of justice”. She also expressed a shared concern: “What alarms us today is that environmental issues seem to gradually lose their place in international political priorities, even though the planet has never needed us so much. “And to add that” there can be lasting peace on an exhausted planet, nor fair development in a distress environment “.
Morocco’s participation in this event constitutes, according to her, a precious opportunity to exchange good practices, to be inspired by innovative experiences and to assert the position of the kingdom as a committed, united and resolutely turned actor.
The work of the conference, which spread over three days, are articulated around a rich scientific program, including panels, workshops and plenary sessions of high level, tackling in particular, international law of ocean protection and atmosphere; the integration of climate justice into public policies; fundamental links between human rights and environment; as well as the strengthening of legal and institutional capacities in the face of global ecological crises.
