The three -day truce, decreed on April 28 by Vladimir Putin on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, entered into force Thursday, shortly after midnight, even if kyiv immediately denounced multiple violations on the entire front line. As before that of Easter, Russia announced this truce for “humanitarian reasons” – without convincing many people.
In kyiv, we described the Russian proposal as “com”. “Why wait until May 9 and why only for three days?” asked Volodymyr Zelensky. In Moscow, we saw above all a “consolation batch” for Donald Trump, who hoped when his 100-day house could at least announce this a month-long ceasefire on which Washington and kyiv managed to agree. It has been more than two months that a proposal in this direction is on the office of the master of the Kremlin, without the latter deigning to answer them. Once again, Americans and Ukrainians will have to be satisfied with this little gesture of Vladimir Putin who pursues, moreover, a much more prosaic objective: limiting the risks that the Ukrainian army does not spoil this highly symbolic celebration.
