The reciprocal support clause in the event of aggression against Poland or France constitutes “the essence” of the bilateral treaty that the two countries are preparing to sign Friday in Nancy, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk told the press. “I do not hide that, for me, the absolutely the most important question was that of mutual security guarantees. This mutual support clause in the event of aggression against one of our countries is the very essence of this treaty,” said Donald Tusk before flying to France.
The growing weight of Poland in Europe
Asked about a possible French nuclear umbrella, from which Poland would like to benefit from, Donald Tusk indicated that the Treaty “also opens the possibility of cooperation in this area”. “The provision we have (registered) in the treaty on this subject, and this is the specificity to which we have kept a lot, is in the event of a threat, attack on Poland, and France, the two countries undertake to provide mutual assistance, including military assistance,” he said.
