Faced with Donald Trump, the plan of France and Europe to attract foreign researchers

The event had been expected for several weeks. How was Europe reacting to the various attacks suffered by American since the of the Trump administration in January? For a hundred days, government agency websites and research projects have been censored across the Atlantic because containing banned like “diversity”, “woman” … Thousands of people working for funding have been dismissed. Budgets have been or frozen, affecting projects in climate research, in health, etc. Threats to stop federal grants of several hundred million dollars were launched against universities. Students or foreign staff have been expelled. And the drafts of future budgets provide drastic cuts in budgets, including those of NASA.

To react to this “Unthinkable”the president, Emmanuel Macron, on May 5 in the main amphitheater of the Sorbonne, launched the initiative “Chose Europe for Science”, in the presence of the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, of three European commissioners, two ministers and several representatives of French and European organizations and universities.
