McLaren Racing boss Zak Brown said that Carlos Sainz’s return to the stable remained possible if a position was to be released in the future.
Currently, McLaren relies on a solid pilot duo: Lando Norris, under contract until the end of the 2027 season, and Oscar Piastri, who recently prolonged his commitment with a multi -year agreement. A choice that is bearing fruit, since Piastri occupies the head of the championship with 10 points ahead of Norris after five Grands Prix.
Despite this stability, Brown recognized that Carlos Sainz, today at Williams, would be among the potential candidates in the event of a change in the workforce. The Spaniard knows McLaren well, for having evolved there during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, during which he had notably won podiums in Brazil and Italy, while maintaining an excellent relationship with Norris.
« If we had a vacant seat, we would of course consider Carlos “He told Marca. “” But for the moment, we have Lando and Oscar under contract for several years. If however the situation were to change and Carlos was available … I have his number in my repertoire. »
When asked if he would have made the same decision if a star pilot like Hamilton had been available, Brown replied: “ It is not as simple as that, many factors come into play. Lewis is seven times world champion and it is rare to have a sportsman of this caliber in his team. But at the same time, Carlos was great with us, he is a good friend and an excellent driver. Fortunately, I did not find myself in a situation where I had to make this decision. »»
