The Saint-Jean-Baptiste-de-la-Salle private school and college, in Lisieux (Calvados) must close its doors at the start of the 2026 school year. In the preamble to the municipal council, this Tuesday, April 15, 2025, the mayor (various right) Sébastien Leclerc returned to the surprise caused by this measure: “The establishment had recently requested its connection to the Urban Heat network, which normally was struck over several years. In December, the establishment questioned the city so that we studied the possibility of making them meals in the central kitchen ”.
“Vigilance” on public staff
Sébastien Leclerc and Karine Lannier, delegated advisor in charge of educational success, met with diocesan management: “We were able to express our disapproval on the closure method and we asked that minimum children can end their school cycle in the establishment”.
The councilor now anticipates a postponement of part of the 316 students of Saint-Jean-Baptiste-de-la-Salle to public establishments. “I alerted the academic director to ask her to be particularly vigilant in the workforce, perhaps sometimes unexpected, that there will be in our schools at the start of the next school year”.
Currently, the 2025-2026 school card, unveiled in early April, provides 45 class closings in the department, including three in Lisieux (Guizot, Macé, Moulin). A closure is also announced in Livarot and another in Saint-Germain-de-Livet.
On the other hand, two classes should open, one in Marolles and the other in Crèvecœur-en-Auge.
