“The ceasefire (…) on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory,” said the official Russian news agency Ria.
Ukraine has never accepted this truce and qualified it as a communication, calling for a 30-day ceasefire.
A few hours before the entry into force of the order of Mr. Putin, Moscow and kyiv exchanged a series of air attacks, resulting in the closure of airports in Russia and killing at least two people in Ukraine.
-The Kremlin said that the Russian forces would respect Mr. Putin’s order to stop fire, but that they would “immediately” respond if Ukraine launched attacks.
The Russian president announced the truce last month in a “humanitarian” gesture, following the pressures exerted by the United States so that they put an end to the assault they have been leading for three years against Ukraine.
Since his inauguration, US President Donald Trump has been trying to negotiate a sustainable ceasefire between Moscow and kyiv, but he failed to obtain major concessions from the Kremlin.
In March, Vladimir Putin rejected an American-Ukrainian joint proposal for a unconditional ceasefire and has only offered lean contributions to Mr. Trump’s peace efforts.
Ukraine said that she did not believe that Russia would adhere to this truce and accused Moscow of having committed hundreds of violations during a previous 30-hour ceasefire ordered by the Russian president at Easter.
