Ambition France Transports: Who is the deputy Gérard Leseul who will pilot the Freight workshop?

The Ambition France Transports Conference, dedicated to the financing of transport infrastructure, was officially launched on Monday in Marseille in the presence of Prime Minister François Bayrou and the Minister of Transport Philippe Tabarot. Among the four workshops planned to animate the debates, that devoted to freight will be piloted by Gérard Leseul, socialist deputy of Seine-Maritime.

A pair at the head of the Freight Workshop

The workshop “Modal report and transport of goods” will be co-directed by Gérard Leseul and Corinne Blanquart, recognized expert, former research director at IFSTTAR and today the first vice-president of Gustave Eiffel University. This tandem will have to tackle the challenges of the modal transfer.

A deputy committed for sustainable mobility

Gérard Leseul is not a novice in terms of transport and mobility. Vice-president of the Sustainable Development and Regional Planning Commission, he notably co-owned a bill aimed at reforming the mobility orientation law, with the aim of accelerating the ecological transition of business fleets.

A defender of low -emission zones (ZFE)

The deputy of Seine-Maritime stood out in 2022 for his early commitment to areas with low mobility emissions (ZFE-M). At the time, he launched a “flash mission” on their implementation and never hidden his support for this device.

“The ZFE-Ms are a real opportunity to improve the quality of the air and the quality of life of the populations. But it is also a system that strongly impacts mobility and access to daily activities and the rights of individuals, which raises issues of acceptability and social justice, “he wrote.

Positions expected on the modal postponement and the ecotax

If Gérard Leseul is very committed to the ZFE, he has not yet expressed himself publicly on the modal postponement-that is to say the transfer of the transport of goods from the road to the rail or the river-which nevertheless constitutes the heart of the workshop which he will pilot.
