Almost a month after the disappearance of the jogger Agathe Hilairet in Vienne, the young woman was found dead on May 4. Analyzes have been carried out on his body, but the cause of death has not yet been established.
Essential
- Agathe Hilairet, the 28 -year -old jogger who has disappeared since April 10 has been found dead. His body was discovered on Sunday May 4 in the south of the town of Vivonne, apart from the large scope of research, according to the Poitiers prosecutor’s office.
- An autopsy was carried out to determine the causes of death, but the exams did not prove to be fruitful. Difficulties linked to the state of the body deteriorated by the past weeks since the disappearance of the young woman, especially since the body has been found in the wild.
- Several tracks are always envisaged to explain the disappearance and death of Agathe Hilairet. The criminal hypothesis after a bad meeting is among the possibilities. Just as that of an accidental death due to the fragile health of the jogger who weighed only 35 kg for 1m65. Finally, the suicide track is not privileged, but is not excluded.
- In mid-April, a judicial information for kidnapping and forcible confinement against X had been opened by the Poitiers prosecutor’s office to strengthen “technical investigations, analyzes (DNA, digital), hearings, searches” and give the investigators “all the prerogatives of investigation”. The investigations continued even after the research system was lifted.

08:42 – Agathe victim of a murder? A possibility despite the lack of evidence
The criminal track is still considered to explain the disappearance and now the death of Agathe Hilairet. first, because the body was found outside the extended research perimeter around areas that the jogger used to frequent to run. The young woman could have been transported and left dead out of sight. Then, because if no important injury could be found on the body or at least reported by the Parque, does not mean that Actathe was not violated. The absence of a finding is explained by the degradation of the body which was found in the great outdoors after three weeks of research.
Finally, the physical condition of Agathe and its thinness can prevent the detection of ballistic elements linked to a firearm shot on the body as explained by Jean-Charles Fombonne, former commander of the Orleans research section, on BFMTV: “Given the corpulence of the victim, the ball could have crossed the body, without a trace”. Post-autopsia additional examinations will allow you to know more about the causes of death.
05/05/25 – 23:04 – No track is privileged for the moment
The autopsy carried out on the body of the victim has not, for the moment, allowed to determine precisely the causes of his death. At this stage, all hypotheses remain open, and the results of the technical analyzes provided for in the coming hours could make it possible to establish whether the cause of the death results from an accident or if it is a criminal act.
During the first investigations, the investigators had envisaged the suicide track, but this hypothesis was quickly dismissed, although not completely abandoned. This decision was made after having collected testimonies from relatives of the victim, who seemed to bring new elements and qualify this possibility. The investigators therefore continue to examine all the tracks, in order to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this mysterious death.
05/05/25 – 20:09 – The limits of the autopsy facing time
When a body is discovered three weeks after death, the forensic doctors come up against an implacable reality: time erases traces. The decomposition, already well advanced at this stage, strongly complicates the identification of the causes of death. The tissues are altered, the organs sometimes unrecognizable. Under these conditions, certain lesions – such as internal bruises, traces of asphyxiation or fine fractures – can simply no longer be visible.
The state of the corpse also depends on many factors: room temperature, humidity, exposure to the open air or confinement. A body preserved in the cold or in a dry place will deteriorate more slowly, but has a certain delay, even the toxicological examinations can be not very conclusive. The substances ingested or injected, such as alcohol or certain drugs, are sometimes no longer detectable, or their concentration has become impossible to interpret with certainty.
05/05/25 – 18:37 – Analyzes are in progress
The body was found south of the town of Vivonne, from where the victim left before his disappearance. Analyzes of radiology, toxicology, but also insects found on the body are underway. A scanner could also be made to detect possible lesions on the body. In some cases, cardiac arrest “leaves no visible traces” and could not be detected during an autopsy, details Doctor Rambaud on BFMTV, a medical examiner.
05/05/25 – 17:45 – An autopsy conducted on Agathe today
“The autopsy carried out today did not determine, at this stage, the causes of death. […] Several additional analyzes are underway to continue the investigations, “said prosecutor Cyril Lacombe in a press release.
05/05/25 – 17:40 – The body found is that of Agathe
The prosecution made public on Monday the first elements of the analyzes carried out on the body discovered yesterday. The “first observations made made it possible to confirm” that it was the body of the 28 -year -old jogger, said the magistrate.
05/05/25 – 17:35 – Agathe’s body found in an “undergrowth on the outskirts of research zones”
The body of Agathe Hilairet was found this Sunday, May 4 in the south of the town of Vivonne, said the prosecution. The investigators had deployed a very important research device, but without managing to find the young woman. The body was however very close to the research area.
Find out more:
Agathe, 28, had not given any more life since she left her parents’ home, on the morning of Thursday, April 10, 2025 when she started her jogging around 10:30 am. Not seeing her return, her father had given the alert and an investigation for “disturbing disappearance” had been opened by the Poitiers prosecutor’s office, then a call for witnesses had been broadcast by the gendarmerie. He described a “anorexic” woman, weighing 35kg for 1m65. A mention which was then modified, with the mention of a “very thin size”, without precision of its weight. She wore a “joggist’s outfit”, namely black shorts and a race bag, the day of her disappearance.
On Monday, April 14, the Poitiers prosecutor’s office announced the opening of judicial information for removal and forcible sequestration against X, to strengthen “technical investigations, analyzes, hearings, searches” and give the investigators “all the prerogatives of investigation”.
Investigators still favored the hypothesis of a bad meeting at the end of April. A testimony evoked a person with behavior deemed suspicious, but this information was not confirmed. According to Le Parisien, the suicide track, although not excluded, is not among the scenarios favored by the gendarmes. His daily life “does not evoke suicidal thoughts”, reading the young woman’s diary. The young woman was secretary in a social association in Poitiers and her latest recent internet research focused on the search for a new job, the Parisian assured at the end of April.
Finally, the young women’s relatives also did not think of this hypothesis when a close to the file entrusted, always to the Parisian, that it would be surprising “to go run and decide to end her life after 10 km”. Investigators discovered clues in his accommodation seeming to keep the hypothesis of a planned fugue away, according to a source close to the AFP investigation.
