Russia said in the night of Sunday to Monday to have foiled a Ukrainian drone attack that aimed Moscow. The attack took place a few days before the celebrations of May 9 marking victory over Nazi Germany in 1945.
This is not the first time that the Russian capital has been the target of Ukrainian operations of this type, even if these remain rare.
The mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobianinen, said on the Telegram network that the air defense had ‘pushed an attack from four flying drones towards Moscow’ without doing either ‘damage or victims’.
This Ukrainian drone raid occurs a few days before the Military Parade of May 9 on the Red Square, which must assist Chinese President Xi Jinping, his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva and other partners and allies of Moscow.
Three -day truce
The commemoration of victory against Nazi Germany just 80 years ago, on May 9, is at the heart of the patriotic account of the Kremlin, which ensures that the invasion of Ukraine is an extension of that against Berlin during the Second World War.
On the occasion of the celebrations of May 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin offered Ukraine a three-day truce,- from May 8 to 10, in order to, according to him, test the arrangement of kyiv to make peace. But the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that he did not believe that Russia would respect this truce.
Separate discussions between Moscow and kyiv, led by Washington, have been extended for more than two months and are struggling, for the time being, to achieve results to find a way out of the conflict triggered by the Russian attack of Ukraine in February 2022.
