Michael Ballman’s is the director of the South Asia Institute at the Wilson Center. He is also a columnist for the magazineForeign Policy , Where he signs the weekly section “South Asia Brief”, an analysis newsletter on the of the region. Since 2007, he has managed the South Asia portfolio to the Wilson Center, where he is responsible for programming and research in this region. His specialty relates to Pakistan, India and Afghanistan, as well as the relations that the States has with each of these countries. His recent focuses on geopolitical dynamics in transformation into South Asia, technological cooperation between India and the United States, the future of United States-Pakistan relations, as well as the role of American strategies during the war in Afghanistan. M. Ballman’s published opinion articles and comments in theNew York Times, Los Angeles Times, Foreign AffairsPolitico, Bloomberg ViewCNN.com, NPR, Al Jazeera, as well as in other publications and magazines in India and Pakistan.

He was interviewed by many major media, including the New York Times, Washington Post, Financial Times, Guardian,  Science Monitor, National GeographicBBC, CNN, NPR, and Voice of America. He is also the author or co -author of several background publications on South Asia, in particularPakistan’s Interminable Energy Crisis: Is There Any Way Out? (Wilson Center, 2015), Pakistan’s Runaway Urbanization: What Can Be Done? (Wilson Center, 2014), et India’s Contemporary Security Challenges (Wilson Center, 2013). He also published policy notes, newspaper articles and works chapters on various subjects, ranging from youth and social networks to Pakistan to India’s energy safety strategy, including cross -border water management in South Asia.

M. Ballman’s holds a master’s degree in law and diplomacy of the Fletcher School to the Tufts Universityas well as a baccalaureate of the School of International Service de l’American University.
