Unsurprisingly, Lane Hutson is a finalist in the Calder trophy, recruited par excellence in the National Hockey League (NHL). The defender had a thunderous season which allowed the Montreal Canadian to participate in the playoffs for the first time in three years.
Hutson, 22, concluded the campaign with 66 points, a summit among all the recruits of the Bettman circuit. It is also two more than Chris Chelios, who held the record for a CH recruit defender since 1984-1985.
Hutson also equaled a NHL record for a first year back with 60 aids. He shares this brand with Larry Murphy (1980-1981).
Second round choice in 2022 (62nd in total), the American of 1.75 m (5 ft 9 in) and 73 kg (162 lb) raised 26 points in digital advantage.
Used on average 22 min 44 s per match, it also maintained a differential of -2.
In five series games, he collected five aids.
The other finalists at Calder are the striker Macklin Celebrini, the second pointer among the recruits, and the goalkeeper Dustin Wolf.
Celebrini, the first choice of the 2024 draft, scored 63 points, including 25 goals, in 70 games in his first season with the San José Sharks.
Wolf, choice of seventh round in 2019 (214th in total), showed a file of 29 victories, 16 defeats in regulation and 8 losses in overtime, while maintaining an average of 2.64 and an efficiency rate of 0.910.
The last player of the Canadian to have won the Calder is goalkeeper Ken Dryden, in 1971-1972.
CH could earn another individual trophy at the NHL gala. Martin St-Louis is a finalist at Jack-Adams, given to the head coach of the year.
