
Another weekend rich in emotions allowed Team Canada to officially appoint its first two athletes for the Winter Games in Milano Cortina 2026.
In summer sports, the Canadian Rugby women’s team at seven won a medal at the world championships, Eleanor Harvey rose to the podium during a World Cup presented in Canada, and Ilya Kharun broke a swimming record.

Curling: Peterman and officially qualified gallant for Milano Cortina 2026
Thanks to their sixth place at the World Mixed 2025 double mixed curling championships, Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant obtained their Olympic qualification as team representatives at the Milano Cortina 2026 games. On Monday, they became the first Canadian athletes officially appointed to the next Olympic team.

After finishing third in their group, Peterman and Gallant reached the playoffs. They bowed 7-5 against Estonia in the qualifying match, then lost 8-4 against the United States in the match for fifth place.
“Getting this place for the Olympic Games was really one of our big goals,” said Peterman. “But in the end, it was also a world championship. We wanted to get on the podium. So it’s a bit of a mixture of emotions. »»
“Our first mission was to win a qualification for the games, and we got there,” added Gallant. “I am proud of us. We fought until the end. The result was not there today, but we learned a lot, and we can use it next year in Italy. »»
This result gives even more motivation to the duo husband and wife as they start their preparation to represent Canada in Milano Cortina 2026.
Rugby: Canada wins bronze at the SVNS world championships
The Canadian Rugby Women’s team has finished its season well by winning the bronze medal at the SVNS world championships in Los Angeles. She dominated the United States in the match for third place, winning her 27-7.
The Americans were the first to score, in the first minute, but it will be their only trial in the match. Canada quickly took advantage of a yellow card given to the United States to take the advantage thanks to tests by Charity Williams and Carissa Norsten, bearing the score at 10-7.
Shortly after she entered the game, Asia Hogan-Crossester scored the first of her three trials, at the end of the first half, giving a 15-7 lead in Canada to the break. In the ninth minute, she recovered a free ball to prevent an American breakthrough, then went to mark another test, which she also managed to transform. She completed her hat -trick in the 13th minute.
It is a third consecutive podium for the Canadian women’s female team at seven, which had also won bronze at the stages of Hong Kong and Singapore in the SVNS series.
Swimming: national records beaten in Fort Lauderdale
Ilya Kharun won the 50m butterfly test in men during the Pro Swim Series in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with 23.09 seconds, a new Canadian record. He thus beat the previous brand of 23.25 seconds established by Finlay Knox earlier in 2024. Kharun’s time is also a new record of the Pro Swim series, surpassing the 23.11 of Matt Targett established in 2012.
Kharun returned to the swimming pool on Sunday and broke a second record of the Pro Swim Series in two days. He won the 100 m butterfly in 50.42 seconds, a personal record and a victory with more than a second and a half ahead of his competitors. Bronze medalist in Paris 2024 in this event, he broke the old 50.80 second record held by the American Shaine Casas.
Thursday, Kylie Masse broke the Canadian record at the 50 -M back during qualifying, with 27.13 seconds. She then took third place in the final. She also finished third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.90.
Summer McIntosh finished second at the 400m free, behind the American Katie Ledecky. She then swam almost her best personal time in the 200 m back, with a time of 2: 06.82, just 0.01 seconds from her record set in 2023, to finish second behind the American Redan Smith.
Athletics: Arop won at 800 m in Miami
Marco Arop obtained the best Canadian result at the Grand Slam Track in Miami. He started with a personal record at 1500 m (3: 35.95), which earned him seventh place. Then he won the 800 m with his best time of the season: 1: 43.69. In the general classification, he finished second, just two points from the British Josh Kerr, who won the 1500 m and took fifth place in the 800 m.
Andre de Grasse made his debut at the Grand Slam Track this weekend and finished sixth in the general classification of the male short sprint. After finishing eighth at the 100 m, he took fourth place in 200 m with a time of 20.23 seconds, his best of the season.
During the second judgment of the Diamond League in Keqiao, China, Sarah Mitton finished fourth at the weight throwing in women. The double world indoor world champion launched her best jet at 19.59 m. The previous week, she took fifth place in Xiamen, China.
Fencing: Harvey wins bronze at the World Cup at home
In front of a delirious audience in Vancouver, Eleanor Harvey won four qualifying games in a row and won the bronze medal at the fencing World Cup.
In the semi-finals, Harvey was beaten by the American Lee Kiefer, world number one and double Olympic champion in reigning, on a score of 15-10. Harvey shared the bronze medal with the Italian Arianna Errigo, who lost in the other semi-final against the Italian Martina Favaretto, who became the champion. This bronze medal is the seventh medal in the World Cup for Harvey, but its fourth since it made history in Paris 2024 by winning the first Olympic fencing medal for Canada.
