Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky, during a joint press in Prague with Czech President Petr Pavel, underlined the possibility of an immediate ceasefire with Russia. The Czech Republic has firmly supported Ukraine since the Russian invasion in 2022, taking the lead in an initiative aimed at providing Ukraine with large caliber ammunition. Zelensky urged Putin to give priority at the end of the war rather than displaying military power during the parades. He highlighted three crucial stages: the intensification of sanctions against Russia, sustainable support for Ukraine and a significant strengthening of defense cooperation through Europe, emphasizing the need for a European unit in terms of self -defense. Pavel has recognized that Russia had not yet demonstrated its will to continue peace, claiming that Putin had the power to end the war by a simple decision, but that it had not shown the necessary will.

Czech Republic ammunition

The Czech Initiative in Munitions, which is based on diplomatic, commercial and industrial expertise to obtain a majority of large caliber ammunition on a global scale and deliver them to Ukraine thanks to the funding of NATO allies, has proven to be very effective. Pavel revealed that Ukraine received 1.6 million ammunition last year as part of this program, and Zelensky expressed the hope of receiving 1.8 million bus by 2025.

Zelensky praised the effectiveness of the initiative and announced projects aimed at extending cooperation in the field of military aviation, including pilot training programs and support for the Ukrainian F-16 fleet. Zelensky also underlined the diplomatic efforts he is currently deploying to persuade Russia to conclude a ceasefire, by discussing air defense systems and sanctions against Russia with American president Donald Trump during a meeting on April 26. The two leaders agreed that a 30-day ceasefire was the appropriate initial step to resolve the conflict.
