Sell 6,000 “veteranes” laying hens of organic farming: this is the challenge that the Champs Libres to Chickens will take up this Friday, May 9. In the Gers, solidarity adoption is set up in the coming weeks, but volunteers are sorely lacking.
Exceptional rescue. This Friday, May 9, the Champs Libre Aux Poules association will go to a organic farming in Gers to recover no less than 6,000 hens. “We intend to save them all and offer them a good life,” says Heidi, the founder of the association.
The objective is therefore to place the hens recovered in homes with the capacity to welcome them, the next day. “As you can imagine, it is impossible for us to take 6,000 at once. This is why the operation will take place over three weekends: May 9, 16 and 23,” she said.
A call for help
Faced with the magnitude of the mission, the association launched an urgent appeal to volunteers. “If you want to help us in order to be able to save more chickens, send us a message as soon as you please! We are looking for people available on Friday evening (until late) to help us recover the chickens and transport them to adoption places (Labarthe-sur-Léze, Mazamet and Pouzac).”

In the Gers, several adopted places are open. On May 17, in Frégouville from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and then in Le Houga from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. And on May 24 in Saint-Caprais, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Registration is always open to reserve one or more hens. Adoptants will receive the exact address of the meeting point after registration. It is requested to register via the association’s website and to join its ethical charter. Finally, a minimum contribution of 4 euros per hen is suggested to support the action of the association.
