As at the start of each month, novelties await the French from this Thursday, May 1. We present them to you.
The drop in gas prices
From this May 1, 2025, French households who heat gas will be able to benefit from a drop in their energy bill: the kilowatt hour (kWh) rate will decrease by 6.4 %, going from 0.12412 euros in April to 0.1162 euros. Concretely, this decrease will represent a reduction of 5.4 % on the annual bill. For a traditional consumption of 11,200 kWh, it will take 1.579 euros, against 1,667 euros until then.
Upgraded amounts for social assistance
It is from this month of May that CAF will begin to pay upgraded social assistance. The amounts of the allocation to disabled adults (AAH), active solidarity income (RSA) or the activity bonus have been concerned: since April 1 (payment to the 5 friend 2025), they have indeed increased by 1.7 % compared to last year.
Adjusted employer contributions
French companies, on the other hand, will see this May 1, social security contributions be modified. For companies with less than 50 employees, it will now be 0.3193 %, and 0.3233 % for those of 50 or more employees. The exceptional and temporary contribution (CET) of unemployment insurance employers ends this May 1 and now reaches 4 %. Finally, the contribution rate for accidents at work and occupational diseases increases to 0.5 %.
Watch out for your income declarations
The income declaration campaign, opened since April 10, 2025, will reach its deadline during the month of May in certain departments. The taxpayers of the Rhône (69) have the longest period to make it, since they have until Thursday, June 5, 2025. After this date, penalties will apply with an increase in the amount of your tax due.
May 22 for the numbers numbered from 1 to 19,
May 28 for the departments of 20 to 54,
June 5 for departments from 55 to 976,
May 20 for paper declarations or French residents abroad.

Completed free registration card for electric
While the state had established free gray card for electric vehicles, this measure ends from May 1. Each vehicle, electric or thermal, will thus be subject to the same regional taxes. As a reminder, this advantage was to encourage the acquisition of electric cars in France.
