Since the assassination of the former secretary general of Hezbollah, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, a real rush to the objects in his effigy has started in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Books, medallions and even gold coins and ingots sell like hotcakes.
According to information gathered here Beirut, jewelers in the region have recorded a sustained and continued request since last October. “It is not a rumor or a phenomenon mounted from scratch on social networks: videos that have become viral reflect reality,” confirms a well -informed local source.
Among the most popular objects is a gold piece with the effigy of Nasrallah, comparable in weight to the famous British sovereign (about 8 grams). But if the latter is struck in 22 carat gold, the Lebanese room is titled at 21 carats.
Another novelty: 10 gram ingots with the profile of the deceased leader also circulate. “Making heavier ingots is technically more complex for Lebanese craftsmen specializing in the treatment of precious metals,” says a jeweler Beirutin. “And to launch a shot, you have to reach a sufficient volume of commands to make costs profitable.”
According to some sources, part of these ingots are struck in Türkiye, while books and medallions are produced locally, under a brand registered with the Lebanese Ministry of the Economy.
