A welcome with great fanfare for an ally that has been essential to Donald Trump. The American president received in the middle of the day on Monday at the White House Nayib Bukele, his counterpart in Salvador. What does the country of Central America offer, of only 6 million inhabitants, in the United States? A point of fall for foreign criminals expelled by the Trump administration and presented as the “worst of the worst”. “We are a small country but we are happy to help you,” said the 43 -year -old Salvado -State Head of State modestly. As usual, Nayib Bukele, who describes himself as the “coolest dictator in the world”, did not wear a tie. The White House did not hold it against him, unlike the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, exhausted during his visit last February.

For the past month, the US government has transferred nearly 250 people to Salvador, including ten people expelled on Sunday who are accused of belonging to the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), a gang of Salvadoral immigrants, and Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan group. These two organizations were classified as terrorists by Donald Trump from the first day of his mandate, concretizing his promise to massively expel migrants illegally present on American territory, starting with foreign criminals. This “alliance” is an “example of security and prosperity”, was delighted by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, on network X on Sunday.
