The governor of the province of Irkoutsk, Russia, proposed an innovative solution to the energy challenges faced by Bitcoins mining operations. Aware of the pressure exerted on regional electrical networks, Igor Kobzev suggested operating the gas associated with petroleum drilling sites to supply these energy -energy activities.
This proposal encourages collaboration between cryptocurrency minors and oil and gas companies, thus paving the way for data centers powered by alternative energy sources. Kobzev stressed that if the regional government supports Bitcoins mining, it remains essential to guarantee a stable supply of electricity for residents and businesses.
Electricity shortages in the region
He considers this partnership as a means of remedying the region’s electricity shortages while attenuating the environmental impact of the burning of associated gases. Companies like Bitriver and Gazprom Neft have already considered using this resource for cryptocurrency extraction facilities. The governor’s optimism is based on the conviction that the exploitation of associated gas can considerably reduce the energy deficits provided for south-eastern Siberia by 2030.
However, criticisms claim that previous attempts to limit mining in the south of Irkutsk have involuntarily fueled illegal and unregulated operations. They also emphasize that the increase in Bitcoin prices is a contributory factor, which makes minors less inclined to close their equipment.
