The mayor of Lévis, Gilles Lehouillier, accuses the government of the CAQ “total abandonment of mobility” for the regions of the Capitale-Nationale and Chaudière-Appalaches, in reaction to the postponement of the work of enlargement of the western portion of the motorway 20.
Mayor Lehouillier had a long time to say about this news that he learned from the media, who also annoyed him.
“Our minister prefers to give this information directly to the media and we do not even deign to meet us to [nous] To say what is happening, ”he said in a press scrum before the council session.
He said he was disappointed not to have been kept informed of the situation and would have liked the CAQ government to prioritize the improvement in the fluidity of traffic by continuing the enlargement of the highway 20.
“We are undergoing the same medicine as Quebec, which means that there is an abandonment in terms of the mobility of two regions,” he continued. “The population will have to be patient, since we will experience the congestion that we currently live until[au moins en] 2040. That’s up to that we are stubbing. ”
No details on postponement
Asked about this postponement of the western portion of motorway 20, Minister Guilbault ensures that the enlargement of this portion is still in the plans.
“It is not uncommon for deadlines to be reviewed for projects, but the important thing is that the project still exists, it will be budgeted. [Pour] The western portion, the work will start next year, “said Geneviève Guilbault, Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, as part of a press conference on road, rail and airport investments for 2025-2027.
The minister did not give more details explaining this postponement.
-“I want people to understand that the third path will be done exactly as planned,” she insisted.
The preparatory work will start next year for a commissioning in 2031. In addition, the extension work in the eastern section of Highway 20 is almost completed. There would only be the completion to be completed.
Accompanied by Bernard Drainville, Minister responsible for the Chaudière-Appalaches region, Mme Guilbault did not fail to praise the investments of the CAQ in the road, rail, airport and maritime transport networks of the province.
“This year, we are $ 7.9 billion, these are amounts that are never seen in Quebec for transport,” she said.
Third link
A question on the progress of the third link project, Geneviève Guilbault said that the next public communication activity on this subject would be to announce the choice of the corridor. She took the opportunity to recall the disengagement of the federalty concerning the financing of mobility in Quebec and the absence of financing in our roads to prioritize public transport.
“And even for public transport, their latest support program ended in March 2023 and the next one is scheduled for 2026,” she said.
