This Saturday, May 3, the members of theCultural Association of Sémézies-Cachan gathered around a friendly glass, Paul Burgan, mayor of the town, and Danielle Sottil, head of the Asso, to celebrate the release of a unique work made from the municipal archives covering the period from 1806 to 1959. The idea of this work was born from the curiosity of Danielle, passionate of local history which, with the benevolent agreement of the mayor, had access to an old archive card bottom of the town hall. Looking for documents on the Baldara family, a member of which was mayor from 1809 to 1815, she discovered old -fashioned letters and papers of an unexpected wealth. This collection does not only tell the story of Sémézies-Cachan, but also, through it, that of many municipalities in Gers and France: road services, primary education, reception of young Belgian refugees sent in 1943 to reconstruct a Belgian army, subscriptions for the army of the East, a body sent to the Dardanelles in 1916…, as much testimonies of the era and the great upheavals of the time. Published in only a few copies, the book is on sale for the benefit of theCultural association. A great way to support local memory while participating in the life of the town.
