The Spanish fashion giant Inditex will inaugurate the largest Zara store never made, in a shopping area of 14,500 m² located in the city center of Antwerp.
It is a major event for retail in Belgium. The Inditex group, owner of the Zara brand, confirmed the upcoming opening of its world’s largest store in Antwerp. The brand will settle in the Meir Corner, a vast real estate project in the heart of the city, at the corner of the Meir and La Jezusstraat, on the site of the old Proximus building.
The future Zara will extend over 14,500 m² spread over three levels, a record for the brand in the world. The surfaces announced are raw measures, including walls, but they give an idea of the magnitude of the project.
A historic contract for the real estate sector
For Tans Urban Landmarks, a real estate company in charge of the project with Urbicoon, it is a major turning point. “It may be the biggest matter for a long time for the whole sector”said his CEO Nicolas Beaussillon. He specifies that it is the largest contract ever signed by his company.
A project in the heart of Antwerp
The Meir Corner will not be limited to shops. In addition to the shops, of which Zara will be the headliner, the site will host a new campus of the Karel de Grote Hogeschool, which will occupy nearly 30,000 m².
The opening of the Zara store is eagerly awaited, but the precise date has not yet been communicated. One thing is certain: this establishment confirms the dynamism of Antwerp as Belgian commercial capital and further strengthens the attractiveness of the Meir, one of the most frequented shopping arteries in the country.
