The capital of Shaanxi province, Xi'an was the departure city of the Silk Road. It has always enjoyed a strategic position in China and is no exception to a certain modernization today.
A contemporary project evoking the past
The new city park is located in the cultural business district in the historic center of Xi'an. THE Xi’an Centre Culture Business District was built between the ruins of the Temple of Heaven and the famous Shaanxi TV Tower.
If its centerpiece remains the vertical park in the shape of a tree, it is a site with an area of 155,000 square meters which was developed by the architecture and design studio Heatherwick Studio whose offices are located in London and Shanghai.
Ses architectsarchitects did not hesitate to collaborate with local artisans to produce ceramic tiles creating a bridge between the history that forged the city – including a nodeyeeye to its illustrious terracotta army and the roofs of the Chinese temples of Xi'an – and the modern period in which we live.
-A park designed with precision
The Centre Culture Business Districtwhose streets will be pedestrianized, will be equipped with retail spaces, terraces and open squares, office buildings, but also housing, without forgetting the green spaces and the vertical park, a true emblem of this creation architectural.
Rising to a height of 57 meters high, it features 56 cascading terraces and garden spaces on which grow speciesspecies plants endemicendemic reminiscent of the Silk Road and the flora of the region.
The facades, columns and other elements of the structures are covered with more than 10,000 ceramic tiles, a desire of the studio Heatherwick Studio to create a unique sensory experience. Raised more than 50 meters from the ground, walkers will be able to enjoy a “ visual complexity » and different points of view sculpted by this extraordinary vertical park.
