The day had barely dawned this Sunday, January 12, when the first participants arrived in downtown Cayenne. This video marks the opening of the street carnival.
A little before 7 a.m., the procession of the first vide of this 2025 carnival left the Arago bridge to head towards the Chez Albert bakery.
Several hundred carnival-goers strolled through the streets of the capital. This first video was animated Roméo Léter. The festivities ended around 8 a.m.
The atmosphere was festive and joyful for the launch of these two months of festivity. The party was, however, marred by an attack. In the middle of the parade, a person was stabbed in the thigh and was taken to hospital. His days are not in danger.
This afternoon, the party continued in the streets of Cayenne with a new feature: the “touloulou challenge”. The parade started after 4 p.m. Nine groups provided the atmosphere. Enough to launch the street carnival for the next two months.
The objective of this new “touloulou challenge” is to attract young people, to modernize touloulou and put it at the heart of the street carnival. Marked by the return of the Patrons to Nana’s on Saturday evening, this start of the Guyanese carnival looks promising.
