Who said you have to break the bank to see Art? Not the RATP in any case since the transport authority is offering its users a free exhibition until spring 2025… in its corridors.
In partnership with the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art, the RATP is offering an exhibition by the artist Yann Kebbi in the Palais royal-Musée du Louvre station. Titled Construction siteit consists of a series of drawings which “make visible the invisible” of the construction sites according to the artist who pays homage to “these men and women at work, hidden by the machines and the scaffolding”.
More than a metro corridor, a passage of Parisian heritage
The exhibition, proposed in a metro corridor, lends itself perfectly to the numerous passages that users can make. Concerned about detail, Yann Kebbi deploys myriads of humorous scenes and winks that we discover each time we pass in front of the works: “I like to tell myself that every day, users can notice a detail that they he hadn't seen it the day before. »
The curious should easily linger on his works as the setting in which they are exhibited lends itself to this. Indeed, more than a metro corridor, the Valois gallery is an emblematic passage of Parisian heritage, which connects the Palais-Royal – Musée du Louvre metro station to the former Louvre department stores.
“Offer all possible cultural breathing space to users”
Opened in 1919, this former shopping mall features Art Nouveau style decor, with its characteristic floral motifs. Nice wink, it is accessed by exit 4 of the metro station which will serve the future entrance to the new spaces of the Cartier Foundation, in the building previously housing the Louvre des Antiquaires, place du Palais Royal, and which are due to open end of 2025.
“The RATP has always been very committed to offering all possible cultural breaths to its users,” explains Pierre Audigier, responsible for the special operations of the culture of the management, reinforced by a study carried out by the operator which suggests that 65% of users believe that it is important to be offered this kind of culture in the metro. “This exhibition is part of our approach in the same way as the metro musicians, the major poetry competition that we have been organizing for thirty years, or the Street art gallery located between the Auber and Opéra stations. »
