In Erquy (22), on the beach, on the ramparts of Saint-Malo (35), on a disused building in Locmariaquer (56), in the city center of Rennes, on Briochin panels, at the port of Dinan… There are hundreds of them. In the four corners of Brittany, in more or less large formats, more or less colorful models, the artist's best friend TataBzh shows up here and there, the end of his little heart.
The amateur graffiti artist, nevertheless passionate, likes to distill love wherever he places his markers, to share it with passers-by. A self-taught activity that this fifty-something from Rennes has been practicing, for pleasure, for only about three years.
“They were putting on their faces”
Born in Locmariaquer (56), 50 years ago, Erwan (his real first name!) lived part of his youth in Fougères (35) before settling in Rennes where he still lives. And absolutely nothing predestined this Parisian business school student to take up street art. Except that, in the 90s, in his class, many were interested in the beginnings of the genre. “Several students in my class, equipped with large felt pens, went, at night, in the metro and in the streets of the capital, and, as they said at the time, they put on their blas'. I came from Fougères, it was all new for me, but I really liked it,” says the artist.
Love moves mountains!
It remained there for several years. The student became a pharmaceutical representative and father of two children. However, four years ago now, the desire to draw returned. “I saw street art works and I said to myself why not me? I wanted to create something to make city walls prettier, by delivering a beautiful message. »
Ah, love moves mountains, doesn’t it? Erwan imagines a few drawings before giving life to this winged heart which will become the signature and brand of TataBzh. If Bzh is easily understood, why Tata? Because it's the nickname given, for years, by his group of friends. While they were together, one day, a little girl in the street made a mistake and shot him on the leg, thinking it was his aunt. The little girl found the real one and the nickname remained for Erwan.
To life, to death
Now where TataBzh goes, love has wings. And the testimonies that come back to the graffiti artist are proof of this. “Some time ago, I was contacted by a mother who lost her son in a motorcycle accident in Belle-Ile-en-Mer (56). She saw my “tatas” and asked me to make one to install at the scene of the tragedy. I was very touched by this woman. Another lady explained to me that she had used my drawing, seen on the port of Dinan, for her wedding invitations. » Life, death… TataBzh's love transcends the moments of existence.
The wings of love
Less funny is this experience that he had, quite recently, in a coastal town, not far from Dinan. While he was creating a small graffiti on the back of a road sign, he was fined by the municipal police. Despite the immediate deletion of the illustrated creation, the mayor filed a complaint and TataBzh was sentenced to 30 hours of community service, which he carried out at the Restos du Cœur. Because above all, that is the heart, nothing but the heart that TataBzh wants to make palpitate in those who discover its wings of love.
