Philippe Prost, living memory: the retrospective exhibition at the Cité de l’Architecture

The Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine pays tribute to Philippe Prost, through a retrospective exhibition which highlights the career and creations of the architect. To be seen from October 18, 2024 to March 23, 2025.

His name may not be known, but his achievements are: Philippe Prost is an important architect and urban planner in , who worked at the restoration and the preservation many places, cultural sites and monuments known in France. He is honored at the City of Architecture and Heritagefrom October 18, 2024 to March 23, 2025, through a exposition unpublished work which retraces his entire career.

This retrospective, entitled Philippe Prost, living memorythus immerses us in the creative process of the architect, his working methods, and looks back on his most important projects, and the challenges he was able to face.

The citadel of Belle-Île-en-Mer, the Brickworks of Vitry-sur-Seine, the Hôtel de la Monnaie de , the cultural center The 26 colors in Bourg-lès-, the international memorial of Notre-Dame-de-Lorette… Philippe Prost has worked on the development and rehabilitation of numerous places, in order to give a second life to forgotten buildings. The architect revolves his work around the memory : memory of places, people, regions.

Thanks to different photographs construction site and finished works, documents and work archives, and samples materials and prototypes, visitors discover how Philippe Prost takes over these places which have their own history, to bring them back to life, while meeting ecological and sustainable requirements, and adapting to the new social and economic needs of the territories.

With this exhibition, the Cité de l’Architecture immerses us in the work and thoughts of this unique creator, who wants to perpetuate this collective memory linked to buildings, while offering new places to the population.

The exhibition tour is punctuated by the presentation of a twenty projects which marked the career of the architect, to be discovered in the gallery of casts and contemporary models of the gallery of modern architecture.
