This shade also enlivens the woodwork and the door of the intimate living room, where you can watch television from the personalized sofa bed, covered in velvet.
Inspired by its 19th century originse century in the heart of New York, the townhouse does not follow the open plan omnipresent in most contemporary renovations. “The layout of the house gives an impression of classicism, because the rooms are well defined; it’s not just big, winding, tall spaces.”explain Paris Forino. “I think this layout lends itself better to freestanding furniture than lots of built-ins. » Enthusiastic about dynamic design, the architect selected playful furniture from manufacturers around the world, including anthropomorphic chairs from the Holly Hunt collection by Christian Astuguevieille, resin sconces from the Italian duo Draga Obradovic and Aurel K. Basedow, as well as as a cocktail table with a fuchsia blown glass base by Grzegorz Majka, from London. All sofas are custom-made, as are the rugs, which feature geometric patterns in a variety of tones. Art consultant Elizabeth Fiore helped decorate the walls with collectible works by artists such as Frank Veteran and Juergen Teller.
Paris Forino notes that the living room is where homeowners often gravitate. “It’s a very nice room where you sit and feel good”she says, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling patterned curtains, plaster chandelier and height-mitigating bookcase. Sunlight streams in through the oversized windows, also offering views of the back garden, landscaped by Brooklyn-based Corey Hutson, perfect for grill-oriented gatherings. Overall, Paris Forino describes his design strategy for this home as “eclectic but carefully selected”. For a couple who loves to entertain, the house itself becomes a topic of conversation.
