Transformists, the last from Michou : this is the title of the exhibition that Vincent Alvarez present until April 1 at Caveau des oubliettes in Paris. She is accompanied by this text.
At Michou, founded in 1956 by Michel Catty, better known as Michou, has become over the decades a real Parisian institution. Nestled in the heart of Montmartre, this mythical cabaret was the scene of a singular and flamboyant art: transformism.
The “Michettes”, transforming artists embodying legends of song and scene, enchanted generations of spectators in brilliant performances and imprints of self -mockery.
At Michou was much more than a cabaret: it was a sanctuary of diversity and freedom, attracting celebrities, tourists, and regulars, all united by the same fascination for this unique show.
After the death of Michou in January 2020, the cabaret continued to shine a few years before closing its doors in June 2024. Today, at Michou remains in memories as a symbol of the party, of freedom and A Paris that is both nostalgic and timeless.
-In 2016, Vincent joined the Michou team as a replacement sound and light manager. During the health crisis, he became the main manager of the famous Parisian cabaret. In this position, he participated in the design of the artists’ numbers, creating their musical montages and orchestrating light games. This close collaboration allows him to build bonds of confidence with the Michettes and to attach himself deep to this place.
On June 30, 2024, the legendary man’s hut in blue was bowing during a final representation before its final closure. That evening, Vincent Alvarez moved behind the scenes, as close as possible to the artists, to immortalize with his medium format silver apparatus the last moments of 80 rue des Martyrs.
