It’s winter, but not just any winter, a Jura winter. That means it’s very cold… Christmas time obliges, Cathy and her husband Michel are on edge because they are selling Christmas trees.

Face to nose with a bear

They are especially on edge because they cannot make ends meet and their debts are soaring. As he drives home, on an inevitably mountainous road, Michel finds himself face to face with a bear. He avoids it but hits a magnificent limousine parked on the side of the road. He can only note the death of the two occupants. A little lost, he rushes home to talk to Cathy about it.

Squeaky thriller

The latter quickly decided. They both return to the completely lost scene of the accident. Cathy inspects the scene and finds a sports bag filled with bank notes. There are two million of them. A sum that would allow them to get back afloat. Michel hesitates. For Cathy the decision is made… A very gritty thriller, dark but subtly socially fair, can begin. Don’t try to count the bodies…

And what is exhilarating in Franck Dubosc’s film is that this collection of people passing from life to death, often in a brutal way to say the least, ends up joining a repertoire of hilarious comedy of the second degree, even third, of the best water. And that’s quite an art!

A film with a superb cast

Franck Dubosc (Michel), Laure Calamy (Cathy) and Benoît Poelvoorde (The cop in charge of the investigation) already form a cast with a beautiful authenticity of tone. The short but brilliant appearances of Emmanuelle Devos as the director of a swingers club and Anne Le Ny as a commissioner who doesn’t really know how to finance a piano, add to the interest of this “almost” amoral film, which also puts us in front of a beautiful question. What to do in such a case? Right now we all have the answer, of course, of course…
