Parliament: the majority in turmoil

Parliament: the majority in turmoil

In Parliament, the tide has turned. The approach of the elections has meant that we can no longer distinguish the speech of the parliamentarians of the majority from that of the elected representatives of the opposition.

Both camps are now opposed to the government, notes Assaba this Monday, January 20.

Even if the positions of each party seem confused, seen from the angle of the political map of Parliament, in reality, this is entirely natural, given that parliamentarians represent, after all, their constituency and therefore their voters , regardless of their position within the Chamber, writes the daily.

The fact remains that this situation has become more acute recently, and ministers are, so to speak, often taken to task, bluntly, both for the elected representatives of the majority who are supposed to support the government or those of the opposition, explains Assaba.

This situation is repeated very frequently in committees, and ministers are sometimes confronted with almost provocative questions.

The elected officials act in this way, according to the daily, “with the aim of shaking up ministers and encouraging them to make changes in their department, which sometimes depend only on a simple decision to replace the head of an administrative service which blocks the proper functioning of the service and therefore the investment, by refusing to grant authorization or delaying a development project».

The ministers, the daily estimates, are not opposed, provided that the parliamentarians provide evidence to support their accusations.

The message is addressed both to elected representatives of the opposition and to those of the majority.

That said, the daily does not generalize these facts: “There are parliamentarians, mainly from the majority, who do not hesitate to highlight the work of ministers, at the same time welcoming the efforts of the government», we write.

Pour Assabaministers also do not do much to improve their relations with elected officials, because members of the government thus reject any request from parliamentarians to meet them, and literally close the door to their office. in the face.

In their defense, they argue that “parliamentarians most often want to meet them in private, to submit personal requests, requests for authorization, or the possibility of benefiting from certain privileges“, to which the elected officials oppose their usual grievances: “ministers refuse to receive them, even though they only seek to defend the interests of their constituents, because at the end of their mandate, the latter will hold them to account and demand concrete actions», details the daily newspaper.

All this, considers Assabarisks affecting the action of the government, and it is therefore clear that everyone is acting as if it were a premature electoral campaign, and “this is not to displease the leaders of the majority parties who thus face friendly fire».

This, especially since this type of reaction even comes from certain group leaders of the majority in the First Chamber, “which will not fail to harm the solidity and cohesion of the government coalition», Estimates the daily.
