Concern over the safety of Miss France 2025 after her reaction on Charlie Hebdo: News

Frédéric Gilbert, president of the Miss Society, stepped up to the plate in Le Parisien, Sunday January 12, to defend Angélique Angarni-Filopon after criticism linked to the controversy over her comments regarding Charlie Hebdo.

Angélique Angarni-Filopon threatened? The 34-year-old young woman, elected Miss France 2025 on December 14, has been at the heart of a lively controversy since her interview on Sud Radio, the day after the 10th anniversary of the Charlie Hebdo attack. The journalist asked the woman if she was Charlie, and she kicked in, preferring not to comment. The controversy quickly swelled on social networks and the satirical weekly added fuel to the fire by publishing a drawing – titled Miss France n'est pas Charlie – representing three Islamists holding a sign “I am Miss France”.

Frédéric Gilbert, president of the Miss France Society, reacted in The Parisian Sunday January 12. “There are people who can come across this drawing and not all have a sense of humor. I am worried for the safety of Miss France”he declared. If Angélique Angarni-Filopon herself admitted to having been “clumsy” in his response to Charlie Hebdo, Frédéric Gilbert defended himself, arguing that he was asked to avoid responding to this type of subject and to observe “a duty of reserve”. “She was completely taken by surprise by this question and she went into automatic mode as she was asked: not to express herself as Miss France on political and religious subjects.”

Angélique Angarni-Filopon victim of online harassment

This controversy puts another piece in the machine of online harassment. Since her coronation, Angélique Angarni-Filopon has been the victim of an unprecedented wave of hateful and racist comments. Frédéric Gilbert had also published an official press release just before Christmas to defend the young woman and protect her: “These offensive comments have no place in our competition, nor in our society, and will all be reported to the appropriate authorities.”
