A few days ago, Aurélia Somazzi opened her workshop to the public located on rue des Sarrasins in the village of Sainte-Agnès. For more than two years, the artist has left his professional past behind to devote himself to working with epoxy resin.

This material allows him today to exercise his artistic talents inherited, without a doubt, from his grandmother. Because Aurélia is the granddaughter of Arlette Somazzi, a very renowned sculptor, who died in 2009, and who left behind an artistic legacy of great value.

Indeed, beyond the masks and busts present in particular in the sculpture garden of the Palais Carnolès, we are reminded of the medallion and bust of Francis Palmero at the Bastions in or even that of Le Corbusier which welcomes hikers to the start of the walk which goes around Cap Martin.

The hidden side of resin

But Aurélia chose to work instead with epoxy resin: resistant, transparent, this resin can be cast in different shapes and sizes and be combined with other materials such as polymer clay for jewelry or with acrylic paint for paintings without forget the use of pigments to give color to the resin.

It then makes it possible to create durable and, above all, unique objects. And these are the paths that Aurélia Somazzi takes, well aware that when resin dries, it always reveals a hidden side which further adds to the quality of the result.

Create unique pieces

The designer uses molds that she buys or makes herself to further personalize her creations, thus exploring the thousand and one ways of working with resin. Thus facilitating the creation of unique pieces: jewelry, coffee tables, paintings, etc.

Aurélia Somazzi also collaborates with companies and creates, at their request, personalized objects such as corporate gifts or logos.

Epoxy resin opens up numerous perspectives that allow you to navigate between decoration and art and it is in this multifaceted universe that Aurélia Somazzi has chosen to give free rein to her ingenuity and her talent.
