Standing in the last row of a public meeting on the directions of traffic in Caudéran, involved in a collective which advocates for a one-way section of the Toulousen road or, more recently, a source of proposals with the Vélo-cité association rue Georges-Bonnac. From Bordeaux and a young architect of 24 years, William Boy is everywhere or almost, including on the Internet, where he distills his visuals of a city offering itself more to bicycles and pedestrians.
Its contribution to an essential debate, even on the X network, formerly Twitter, where the most decided positions are expressed, if not constructive. Because the person concerned does not fear going to coal. The quays of Bordeaux with 2×2 lanes, not counting the side lane? “We must lift the taboo”, presented William Boy in June 2023, at the time of an aborted municipal experiment around the Wine Festival site. He proposes going further, transforming one of the two directions of traffic into a two-way cycle path.
The “rebalanced” car
« The ReVe [le Réseau vélo express en cours de constitution, NDLR] aims for 18% modal share in the metropolis, 30% in Bordeaux. How do we accommodate the doubling of cyclists on the platforms, knowing that there are conflicts of use with pedestrians? » he pleads. “The answer is the additional route. » Its trademark: a formidable before and after, which shows an ideal city. Special mention to the Allées de Tourny or the Boulevards, Barrière Judaaïque – one of its best audiences, with 32,000 views.
William Boy denies being a sweet dreamer. On the contrary, he refutes all “dogmatism”: “I do not belong to any party, I do not want to be reduced to a boho-ecological-left box. There is still a place for the car in my proposals, but it is rebalanced,” he pleads. And if he recognizes a “provocative side”, it is because it is not “a vision at the moment T but a horizon of five to ten years, in the medium term”. See you in 2030.
