Emmanuelle Simon: her apartment, a wabi-sabi “hidden gem”

Emmanuelle Simon's Parisian apartment combines Deco style and Wabi Sabi philosophy.

This dilapidated former fur workshop held a unique charm: high ceilings and windows opening onto the street and courtyards, which let abundant daylight flood the ruined rooms. This place, located in the 10e district of , became the private apartment of Emmanuelle Simon, who awakened this dormant space to make it a welcoming home. The apartment is nestled in an elegant Haussmann building dating from 1900, with ceilings more than three meters high. “We were looking for a hidden gem, which we ended up discovering after months of visiting. »

The first impression is often decisive, the Franco-Israeli architect wanted from the entrance to the apartment to highlight the light in the transformation of this « bijou ». She designed an intimate arcade to welcome visitors and guide them directly to the living room. His challenge was to clearly separate the private spaces from the reception area, in order to preserve the privacy of the rooms. She therefore equipped the arched, tunnel-shaped passage with concealed doors.

Emmanuelle Simon stands in the entrance to her Parisian apartment located in an old building. An arched corridor, forming a tunnel, leads to the living-dining room space. On either side of this passage, hidden doors lead to more intimate rooms.

Once in the living room, the kitchen – one of the interior designer's favorite rooms – is at the head of the space. Here, a warm environment has been designed around a central island, sculpted from a single piece of massive, striped stone. An ideal place both for cooking and for sharing a drink in a friendly atmosphere. “I love the view of the arch, which opens like a window to the outside and combines various fascinating materials, such as the textured clay render, the raku splashback and the hand-carved solid wood shelves. hand »she explains.
