“We should not judge them”: an important figure in the British monarchy speaks about Charles III and Prince Harry

He has been close to the British royal family for many years. Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, was interviewed by our colleagues from the ITV channel on his show Good Morning Britain this Thursday, May 9. And he was not spared from questions about the family conflicts between Prince Harry and Charles III. As a reminder, the Duke of Sussex was in London on Tuesday May 7, 2024 to celebrate 10 years of the Invictus Games.

If many observers thought that Meghan Markle’s husband was going to see his father again, this was not the case. The archbishop then wanted to convey a message of peace and compassion for the royal family. “We should not judge them. They are human beings, they should not be judged. We must pray for them and support them.”

Prince Harry and Charles III, an impossible reconciliation?

Especially since the religious man knows perfectly well the two opposing clans. He indeed played a leading role during the coronation of Charles III. And it was he who married Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. So, out of the question for Justin Welby to take a stand.

He also had a little word for Charles III, who is currently fighting cancer. “I’ll just say to everyone, if you’re someone who prays, pray for them because it’s… you can’t go wrong, I mean,” did he declare. “And if you are someone who does not pray, pray for him, because it cannot do harm and it might do good.”

A meeting that did not take place

However, tensions between prince harry and his father are more and more palpable. While the Duke was at St Paul’s Cathedral for the anniversary of the Invictus Games, Charles III organized the first garden party of the year less than three kilometers away.

A few hours after landing in London, a spokesperson for Prince Harry confirmed that the Duke would not see his father: “In response to numerous inquiries and continued speculation about whether or not the Duke will meet his father during his stay in the UK this week, This will unfortunately not be possible due to Her Majesty’s full schedule.”, did he declare.
