Life seems to have some precious pleasures in the large workshop on the banks of the Tarn, in Montauban. Here throughout the year, in well-compartmentalized rooms, the Espace Bourdelle association, a sculpture school, illuminates sculpture and the arts of space in its own way. In the different surfaces, creativity seems to have no limits, and the material radiates a true autonomy of expression. This is a good reason to hold open days last weekend, so that people can discover and register: “We offer a complete course based on the aspirations and orientations of each person, our activities are aimed at everyone the public, which facilitates a certain openness to culture” explains President Nicolas Sudres, also in action during these exceptional days. Espace Bourdelle offers workshops for varied audiences, disabled adults, children, school audiences or elderly people, a vast panorama of social bonds which find their roots in the depths of a creation without borders: “This allows you to practice with a resource place and professional supervision, because practicing at home is not easy” concedes the president.
From stone to wood
Espace Bourdelle carries out specific orders in its workshops, for the restoration of sculptures, or even the creation of trophies: “We encourage practitioners to extract the best from themselves to express their potential and their creativity”. Thanks to the combined skills of different participants, everyone works with stone, wood, plaster, but also iron or terracotta: “These are very specialized techniques, which are based on important artistic notions”. In order to get people to do what they want, there is nothing better than inviting everyone to discover the range of possibilities. This open house weekend was a great success, marked by numerous visits, including the workshop with the children which was acclaimed. Sculpture, a royal road to unlocking certain secrets of this world.
