During K-Live autumn, painting workshops for women from the Island of Thau take place. The opportunity for women to learn to draw but above all to create a mural at the Malraux media library.

There are six of them who went to the painting workshop, organized this Monday, September 30 in Sète, by K-Live autumn. These painting workshops, aimed at women on the Island of Thau, aim to bring women together around street art. Led by the artist Fahrenheit, at the Malraux media library, this first workshop was devoted to research work in order to define the central theme of this year: the imaginary bestiary.

Artist names

But before starting to draw, the six women present, out of eight registered, had to choose an artist’s name. “In street art, we often have a nickname and by putting ourselves in the shoes of a character, it’s easier to let go“, explains the artist Fahrenheit. So it was SB, Syja, Soin, Nanie and Dkuro who were present for this workshop.

After a doodling exercise to let go and gain confidence, the women were able to draw what the theme inspired in them. Syja (artist name) decided to draw a parrot shark: “It is endangered and it is hunted by cheetah sharks“, says the 65-year-old woman. Soin (artist name), for her, drew a butterfly with a lion’s head in order to represent strength and gentleness at the same time. If she participated in this workshop, it is because she needed to refocus on herself: “It’s an environment that I didn’t know at all and I’m not disappointed at all. There is a lot of sharing“, describes the 59-year-old woman.

A future fresco at the Malraux media library

After drawing their imaginary animal, the Sétoises were able to work on shadows and gradients, with the wise advice of Fahrenheit, in preparation for the future fresco at the Malraux media library. Because if these workshops take place, it is not only to draw for a few days but to take over the walls, and more precisely the columns of the André-Malraux media library. “The idea is for women to be the artists and to hold an opening of this fresco with sixteen hands“, confides Fahrenheit who will accompany the eight women on this adventure.

This fresco will complement the one already present on the columns of the media library. Nanie also contributed to last year’s event. This 87-year-old lady has been participating in activities organized by K-Live for 10 years. “I don’t want to stay cooped up at home and even if sometimes you don’t like it at first, you end up liking it. And then it makes me see young people“, she laughs.

The opening of the fresco will take place on Wednesday, October 9 at 3:30 p.m.
