Days after a New York court overturned 72-year-old Harvey Weinstein’s conviction for rape and sexual assault, the former film producer was hospitalized. He suffers from high blood pressure, heart problems and a “multitude” of other health problems, his spokesperson said in a statement.

In 2020, Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison in New York, but an appeals court ruled on Thursday that the movie mogul did not receive a fair trial. The ex-producer having received 16 years in prison during a second trial in Los Angeles last year, he nevertheless remained behind bars. This case also involved rape and sexual abuse.

In the wake of the appeal verdict, Harvey Weinstein was transferred to the famous Rikers Island prison, after having been incarcerated in a penal establishment in the suburbs of New York. This transfer would be at the origin of the problems which must now be monitored by doctors at the hospital.

A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in a New York court to decide whether a new trial should take place. The film producer has been experiencing health problems for some time. Since his indictment, he has suffered from heart problems, diabetes, sleep disorders and eye problems.
