Vieux-Condé: teenagers beat to death a septuagenarian who asked them to make less noise

The tragedy took place at the Belgian border, just a few kilometers from Péruwelz. In Vieux-Condé, in the north of , Philippe Mathot (72) died several days after being beaten up by young people whom he had asked to make less noise.

Hospitalized since last Thursday in critical condition, the septuagenarian succumbed to his injuries on the night of Monday to Tuesday.

According to the prosecutor’s office, which communicated on the news item last Saturday, the victim had been the target of “multiple punches and kicks” even though she found herself “on the ground after falling under the impact hits”.

Three young suspects, aged between 14 and 18, were arrested on Thursday morning. If two of them are still being prosecuted for failure to prevent the commission of a crime and failure to assist a person in danger, the third individual, placed in pre-trial detention, now faces a more serious sentence now that the victim has succumbed to his injuries. .

“The victim having died, this July 11, as a result of his injuries, requisitions for the purpose of indicting the count of intentional homicide will be taken by the prosecution against the 17-year-old minor”, thus specified prosecutor Christelle Dumont.

A former florist, the victim had a wife and two sons.
