It is a drama that has just taken place in Egypt. Last week, a Russian tourist, Vladimir Popov, was killed by a tiger shark a few meters from the shore, in a seaside resort. Remains of his body have just been found in the stomach of the animal.

A young man eaten alive
The 23-year-old had left Russia and had been living in Egypt with his family for a few months. While bathing in the middle of the day in Hurghada, with other bathers nearby, he suddenly fell victim to an ultra-violent attack by a tiger shark. Shipowner videos – with shocking images – show the animal circling around its victim, who started screaming several times “Daddy, save me!”. The young man desperately tried to reach the shore, while horrified holidaymakers shouted at him to swim.

Then the shark launched its attack, dragging the Russian under the surface as the water turned red. The young man’s head reappears one last time, begging for help, before he is devoured.

Testifying to Media 112, Yury Popov, the victim’s father, said: “We went to the beach to relax. My son was attacked by a shark, everything happened in seconds. What sort of help can you provide? This meat grinder arrived in 20 seconds, and my son was just dragged underwater. It’s an absolutely ridiculous coincidence, because it’s a safe beach. There are boats and yachts around. It never happened there. Sharks usually attack wild beaches. It’s just some kind of bad fate.”

The tiger shark was then grabbed and dragged ashore by boat, before being bludgeoned to death on the beach “for revenge”.
Egyptian authorities said the animal had been handed over to specialists to find out the causes of its behavior and determine if the animal had already “caused several previous accidents”. Following the necropsy, the remains of the young man were found in his intestines, according to the media Al Arabiya. Dr Mahmoud Dar, a professor at Egypt’s National Institute of Marine Science, also revealed that the shark was female, but nothing else had been found so far.
