Mexico says it is ready to cooperate with the United States to welcome its expelled citizens

The Mexican government said Friday it was ready to cooperate to welcome its citizens expelled from the United States, while Donald Trump promised an anti-immigration offensive.

“We will always accept the arrival of Mexicans on our territory with open arms,” the Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement after the White House announced that Mexico had accepted “four flights in one day” of expelled nationals.

The Mexican government has not confirmed the arrival of flights or an agreement to receive a defined number of planes carrying deportees.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt welcomed the fact that “Mexico accepted yesterday [jeudi, NDLR] a record number of four deportation flights in one day!”, in a message on X.

“These measures are in addition to unlimited deportations to the land border, the expulsion of non-Mexicans” and the reestablishment of an American program encouraging migrants to stay in Mexico while awaiting a response to their asylum request.

“Mexico maintains very good relations with the United States government and we cooperate while respecting our sovereignty on a wide range of issues, including migration,” added the Mexican ministry.

The President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum proposed this week to provide “humanitarian assistance” and then organize the “repatriation” of foreigners targeted by the first measures of the Donald Trump administration.
