If Russia does not come to an agreement “now” with Ukraine, Donald Trump threatens it with severe sanctions. We’ll have to see. Moreover, he hastened to add yesterday on his Truth Social network: “I am not trying to harm Russia. I love the Russian people and I have always had a very good relationship with President Putin.”
Vladimir Putin congratulated Trump on his victory, calling him a “brave man” and called Trump’s claims that he could help end the war in Ukraine “interesting.” During his campaign, Trump said he could do it “in a day,” without ever explaining how.
Russian interference from 2016 to 2025
Moscow, as we know, interfered massively in the 2016 election in favor of Trump against Hillary Clinton. The British daily The Guardian has already had access to Kremlin documents that appear to show how Russia went about helping Trump’s election in 2016.
A reference in the documents noted that Putin has compromising information about Trump, stemming from visits to Moscow as a businessman. A psychological evaluation described him as an “impulsive, mentally unstable and unbalanced individual who suffers from an inferiority complex.” Nothing has changed. Measures are suggested to exploit its deficiencies.
On the subject of the war in Ukraine, Putin will therefore be able to dominate all negotiations between the United States and Russia and deconstruct any position that is too favorable to Kyiv.
The woman from Moscow near Trump
It will be even easier since Trump has appointed Republican Representative Tulsi Gabbard to control all of the American secret services. She has absolutely no special skills in the field of intelligence and even less in managing a vast federal bureaucracy.
-Gabbard has several times publicly defended Vladimir Putin and his ally, Bashar al-Assad, the recently toppled Syrian dictator. She has also made numerous statements favorable to the Kremlin’s positions and expressed skepticism about American initiatives regarding Syria. During a trip to Damascus in 2017, she reportedly had a meeting lasting several hours with the Syrian dictator. She will have to explain this during her congressional confirmation hearings this month.
If confirmed as intelligence chief, Gabbard will oversee 18 intelligence agencies, including the CIA and NSA (global wiretapping), and will be responsible for protecting America’s most sensitive secrets.
Domestically, Trump’s victory will restart the process of destabilization of the socio-political system of the United States encouraged by the Russians. Demonstrations are expected in major Democratic cities during expulsion operations of illegal immigrants.
Russia’s role in Trump’s rise and power grabs may well be among the largest and most audacious intelligence operations of the 21st century.
