Pardoned by Donald Trump, he was arrested again the next day

Back to the prison box. One day after benefiting from the presidential pardon granted by Donald Trump, a participant in the Capitol riots was arrested again on Wednesday in Washington. The facts with which he is accused have no connection with the assault of January 6, 2021. Daniel Ball thus became the first of the 1,500 rioters pardoned by the president to be back behind bars. The 39-year-old American had been incarcerated since May 2023, awaiting his trial.

The charges against Daniel Ball were among the most serious brought against the attackers, explains Politico. He was in fact accused of having thrown an explosive device at around twenty police officers in a tunnel facing the rioters. The device, which some officers mistook for a grenade, produced a huge noise which gave many police officers tinnitus. Daniel Ball was also accused of throwing a wooden chair leg and a bar in the direction of the police. However, he only remained inside the Capitol for two minutes.

On the instructions of Donald Trump, the charges against the thirty-year-old in connection with the attack on the Capitol were dropped. But at the same time, other accusations remained pending. Before his incarceration, Daniel Ball had in fact been caught in possession of a firearm, even though he had already been convicted of several offenses between 2017 and 2021. Federal police agents therefore executed the warrant. judgment which was pending and proceeded to the arrest of Daniel Ball.
