A statue dating from 2000 years ago found in a garbage bag in Greece

A marble statue dating back 2,000 years ago has been found in a garbage bag near Thessaloniki in eastern Greece.

A resident discovered this 78 cm artifact representing a woman near garbage in the locality of Neoi Epivates, before immediately alerting the authorities, reports The Independant.

According to experts on the subject interviewed by the English media, the statue dates from the Hellenistic era, between 320 and 30 BC. JC.

More in-depth tests will be carried out to learn more about the origin of this work.

The police also opened an investigation in order to find the person who threw the object.

Discoveries of this kind are not rare in Greece.

In December, workers installing natural gas pipes near Athens found a Roman-era statue near the Acropolis.
