The European Union (EU) hopes for “close collaboration” with the new president in the face of “global challenges”, declared the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, referring to “the enduring strength of the transatlantic partnership”.

Left-wing President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva expressed Monday his wish that the United States remain a “historic partner” of Brazil under the administration of Republican Donald Trump, ally of his far-right rival Jair Bolsonaro.
“We do not want quarrels, neither with Venezuela, nor with the Americans, nor with China, India or Russia,” Lula said.
