Ten members of the government coalition sent a letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, expressing their strong opposition to the hostage deal being negotiated with Hamas, mediated by the United States and Qatar.
In this virulent letter, the contents of which were revealed Monday by Israeli media, members of the right-wing coalition urged the Prime Minister not to sign the agreement: “Do not cross the most fundamental moral lines, do not endanger the security of Israel.”
The MPs who signed the letter are: Amit Halevi, Hanoch Milikowsky, Moshe Saada, Tsega Melko, Avichai Buaron, Dan Illouz and Moshe Passal of the Likoud; Limor Son Har-Melech et Yitzhak Kroizer d’Otzma Yehudit ; Simcha Rothman of Religious Zionism.
Earlier today, the agency Reuters had reported, citing a source close to the negotiations, that a final version of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement had been sent to Hamas and Israel for approval. The advance would follow late-night talks between Mossad chief Dedi Barnea, Qatar’s prime minister and Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.
Shortly after this information, Finance Minister Betsalel Smotrich sharply criticized the agreement being drawn up: “This agreement is a catastrophe for Israel’s national security. We will not support a capitulation agreement that includes the release of major terrorists, the end of the war and the abandonment of its gains paid at the price of blood, as well as the abandonment of numerous hostages”.
Israel Beitenou President Avigdor Liberman also commented on the likely deal in an interview with Can Monday morning, declaring that “the opposition must demand that the Prime Minister does a single deal in one go, if we’re going to do it, let’s see it through.”
